In the chaos of Hurricane Katrina, Vietnamese radio came to the rescue by broadcasting in-language, round-the-clock announcements for thousands of displaced Vietnamese. The refugees were able to access aid and shelters in Texas set up by their community, rather than heading to the overcrowded Houston Astrodome. These and other related issues will be discussed at a briefing kicking off the First National Ethnic Media Awards in Washington, D.C., on November 14.

Ethnic and minority parents in California share high expectations for their children and rank education as a top concern, according to a New America Media multilingual poll, set to be released on Wednesday, August 23. Findings show that all groups overwhelmingly support preschool and the high school exit exam.
